CARGO TANK INSPECTOR Training

Cargo Tank Registered Inspector (HM183)

COURSE DURATION – 24 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must have a fundamental working knowledge of cargo tanks and hazardous materials regulations.

Description: The Cargo Tank Registered Inspector course is designed to provide participants a comprehensive understanding of the regulations and requirements associated with cargo tank inspections that fulfill training requirements as specified in Part 172.704 of the hazardous materials regulations. Students begin by receiving training on general hazardous materials. The course progresses through each type of cargo tank, inspection type and culminates with hands on training to re-enforce classroom lessons. Throughout the training, participants will gain a concentrated insight into the specific regulations applicable to conducting cargo tank inspections as well as specific cargo tanks that require inspection. This course offers a platform for participants to ask company- specific questions and seek guidance on any unique challenges they may face in relation to cargo tank inspections.

Cargo Tank Registered Inspector (HM183 - Function only)

COURSE DURATION – 24 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must have completed hazmat general awareness and security awareness training as required in the hazardous materials regulations.

Description: Students review the fundamentals of cargo tank identification, knowing the difference between a specification and a non-specification cargo tank. The course progresses through each inspection type and culminates with hands-on training to reinforce classroom lessons. Training is focused on specific cargo tank specifications that students work with.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TRAINING

Hazardous Materials Ground – Carrier

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must be familiar with hazardous materials regulations and how they may apply to their job.

Description: This Hazardous Materials Ground Shipping Class is aimed at introducing carriers and drivers to the fundamentals of the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) in title 49 parts 100-180. The course covers the fundamentals of transporting hazardous materials from hazard classes and division, documentation to segregation of materials. Students will also be trained in the basics of security awareness and when a security plan is required.

Hazardous Materials Ground – Shipper

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must be familiar with hazardous materials regulations and how they may apply to their job.

Description: This Hazardous Materials Ground Shipping Class is aimed at introducing hazardous materials shippers and warehouse personnel to the fundamentals of the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) in title 49 parts 100-180. Students will learn requirements for classifying, packaging, marking, labeling and documenting hazardous materials shipments. Students also learn common exceptions to the HMR such as limited quantities and how they are defined and how limited quantities should be handled.

Lithium Batteries

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students should have a basic knowledge of how to use the hazardous materials regulations (HMR).

Description: This one-day course takes students deeper into the HMR and covers specific HMRs that discuss the classification, chemistry, and shipping of lithium batteries. Students will learn best practices on how to safely package and ship lithium batteries in compliance with the HMR. Standards learned the HMR are also applicable to both to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) code.

MOTS – Materials of Trade

COURSE DURATION – 2 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must have a basic knowledge of how to use the hazardous materials regulations (HMR).

Description: This course covers regulatory requirements for employees who routinely carry hazardous materials with them in a motor vehicle for business use (e.g., extra gasoline). In certain cases, the materials of trade or MOT provisions allow for regulatory relief for materials carried in the vehicle for specific purposes. Students will be able to readily identify materials that qualify for relaxed hazmat standards when carried as a MOT; properly package, label and carry MOT on a motor vehicle; and develop general awareness of hazardous materials regulations and awareness of hazardous materials security threats.

IATA – Dangerous Goods Transportation by Air

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must complete the Hazardous Materials Ground for Shipper Course.

Description: This one-day course builds on what is learned in the HM Ground shipping course and introduces the students to the fundamentals of shipping Dangerous Goods (DG) using the International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations and U.S. standards. The course is designed for shippers, packers, freight forwarders and anyone else involved in packaging and shipping Dangerous Goods by air. Upon completion students will understand applicability of IATA rules, classification, packing, marking, labeling and documentation requirements to ship Dangerous Goods by air.

IMDG – Dangerous Goods Transportation by Vessel

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must be familiar with hazardous materials regulations and how they may apply to their job.

Description: This one-day course builds on what is learned in the HM Ground shipping course and introduces the students to the basics of shipping Dangerous Goods (DG) by vessel using the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) code. This course discusses the fundamentals of preparing and transporting dangerous goods (DG) in compliance with both U.S. and International standards. The course is designed for shippers, packers, freight forwarders, and anyone else involved in packaging and shipping Dangerous Goods by vessel. Upon completion, students will understand the applicability of IMDG rules, classification, packing, marking, labeling, and documentation requirements to ship Dangerous Goods.

IM/UN - Portable Tank

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must have a solid fundamental knowledge of the hazardous materials regulations (HMR) and how to use them. The Hazardous Material Ground (Shipper) or (Carrier) is recommended.

Description: The course is designed to aid the student with understanding the regulatory and recording keeping requirements for the continuing qualification of DOT specification portable tanks (PT), to include IM 101 & 102 PT, UN PT, DOT 51, 56, 57 & 60 PT. Subjects covered will include periodic and intermediate inspection requirements, dealing with external inspection, internal inspection, leakage test, pressure test, and container framework inspection, if applicable. Additionally, the course will introduce general design requirements for the noted PT.

Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs)

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students should have a solid fundamental knowledge of the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) and how to use them. The Hazardous Materials Ground (Shipper) or (Carrier) is recommended to their job.

Description: This one-day class provides specialized training on HMR relating to Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) or “totes” as they are commonly referred to. Students will dive deeper into the HMR and discuss the regulatory requirements for IBC retesting, requalification and maintenance. The course also teaches the students to identify IBCs using a UN Code located on each IBC and how to find specific regulations using this code.

DOT Maintenance & Safety

Appendix A for Mechanics and Inspectors

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students should have a basic working knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs)

Description: This course covers regulatory requirements contained in Appendix A of Part 396 pertaining to conducting the required annual inspection of commercial motor vehicles (CMV) in 49 CFR 396.17. Students will learn the 15 points of inspection that must be covered during the annual inspection such as brake measurement limits, coupling devices, frames, vehicle lighting and more. At the end of the course the students will be able to identify appendix A and apply the standards shown to future annual inspections they conduct.

Cargo Securement

COURSE DURATION – 2 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must have a basic knowledge of how to use the hazardous materials regulations (HMR).

Description: Course is designed to educate those responsible for securing loads on over-the-road transportation vehicles. Course information is based on the North American Cargo Securement Standard incorporated in the regulations for North America. Topics show employees why and how to be compliant based on The DOT Cargo Securement Standard; Securement Systems; Working with Load Limits; and Loading and Restraining Cargo.

CSI – Comprehensive Safety Inspection

COURSE DURATION – 32 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must be familiar with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs)

Description: The vehicle inspection course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge, skills, and ability to identify a commercial motor vehicle, apply the applicable regulation for commercial motor vehicles, what documents to request and interpret documents provided and properly inspect commercial motor vehicles for safety and compliance with commercial vehicles laws and regulations. Instruction builds confidence and ability to enforce commercial motor vehicle regulations to ensure safety and security of the installation. At the end of the course the student should be able to use best practices and conduct a complete vehicle inspection to acceptable national standards.

DOT Compliance Training

DOT 101 Compliance

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: Trainees should have a minimum working knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Description: This course is an overview designed to assist you with the knowledge to understand the SMS system and the BASICs. (Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories). This course will assist you with setting up files for driver qualification and vehicle maintenance while showing you where to find these requirements in the regulations. You will learn the requirements of the controlled substances and alcohol testing program and when each type of testing should be conducted as well as the requirements of post-accident testing. We will also discuss the Clearinghouse and you will be directed to the regulations for this part as well. We will walk through the hours of service including split sleeper berth (if applicable) to help you understand the basics of hours of service.

Accelerated DOT Compliance

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: DOT 101 Compliance

Description: This course will build out more detailed information than what was received during the DOT 101 Compliance. We will take a deep dive into the regulations for each part that you are subject to and discuss what the DOT will be looking for in those parts as well. We will discuss how to prepare for an “investigation” if you are contacted by the DOT or their State partners. This course will also provide time to ask questions that are specific to your company. We will also review the Safety Planner that is available to each of you and ensure you know how to access it.

Driver Management

COURSE DURATION – 8 HOURS

Prerequisites: Students must have a basic working knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs).

Description: The course provides an overview for CDL drivers and non CDL drivers and management on the fundamentals of Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). The student will gain insight into interstate vs. Intrastate commerce, commercial vehicles defined, basic hours of service and get an introduction to hazardous materials. 

Reasonable Suspicion Training

COURSE DURATION – 2 HOURS

Prerequisites:Trainees should have a minimum working knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations as it pertains to controlled substances and alcohol testing.

Description: This course required by regulation will inform you of the requirements for conducting reasonable suspicion test. This course consists of 1-hour training in alcohol and 1-hour training in controlled substances. Trainees should have a minimum working knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. It will discuss how the observations must be made and who is allowed to make them prior to sending someone for a reasonable suspicion test. It explains step by step what you need to do and things not to do. By following these requirements, you have regulation to work in your favor.
